Imagine a child in rural Tanzania picking up a crayon and drawing the world as she sees it — vivid, instinctive, full of life. Now imagine that drawing becoming a piece of digital art, shared across the world, and helping to build the school she will one day attend.
This is exactly what Digital Téchne and the Cottolengo Institute are doing together. We have launched a charity initiative aimed at supporting the construction of a school in a disadvantaged rural area of Tanzania — and we have chosen to fund it in a way that reflects who we are: through creativity, technology, and the authentic voice of the children themselves.
A concrete goal: education and future
The project focuses on building a school that will offer local children access to education and a tangible opportunity for a better future. In regions where poverty and instability create fertile ground for marginalization and social fragmentation, education represents one of the most powerful tools to generate long-term positive impact.
Supporting this initiative means contributing not only to a physical structure, but to the development of an entire community.
“In these communities, a school is not just a building — it is a statement that the future is worth investing in.” — Don Morero, Project Responsible, Istituto Cottolengo
From children’s drawings to digital art
What makes this initiative unique is the way it connects human creativity with digital transformation.
We started from a collection of drawings created by children aged 3 to 6 living in the area where the school will be built. These drawings — spontaneous, vivid, and completely authentic — were then entrusted to Virginia Farneti, a Rome-based digital artist, who reinterpreted and animated them, transforming each one into an engaging short, animated artwork.
Each piece preserves the original spirit of the children’s imagination, while adding a new visual dimension that makes it shareable and accessible to a wider audience.
A simple and accessible way to contribute
We intentionally designed the initiative to be as simple and inclusive as possible.
Through a dedicated page on our website (www.digitaltechne.ch/charity), anyone can:
- Explore the gallery of animated artworks
- Select their preferred piece
- Download it in exchange for a donation
Donation options are flexible (10€, 20€, 50€, or a custom amount of your choice), payable securely via Stripe or PayPal. Everyone can contribute according to their means.
After the donation, supporters receive:
- The selected digital artwork
- A PDF certificate acknowledging their contribution
No technical barriers, no complexity—just a direct connection between a small gesture and a meaningful impact.
Technology serving people
This project also reflects our broader vision: technology should not be an end in itself, but a tool to create value for society.
By combining digital art, online platforms, and a clear social purpose, we aim to demonstrate how innovation can be used to build bridges rather than barriers.
